Study abroad or internship

Eligible to apply:
– Engineering students enrolled at DTU, AAU, AU and SDU.
– Students enrolled in a BSc/MSc economics and business administraton programme (Cand.merc) at CBS, AAU, AU and SDU.

Requirements:
– Credit qualifying study or internship abroad for at least 3 months (one or two semesters).
– Only stays which are completed after 1 May 2024, are eligible for the upcoming application periode.
– Grade point average of minimum 8.
– You must have pre-approved subjects equivalent to a minimum of 15 ECTS.
– The Fund supports with a maximum of DKK 10,000.

Documentation requirements when submitting the application:
– Updated transcript of  academic records.
– Approved credit documentation – possible to upload after 1 March 2024.
– Admission documentation – possible to upload after 1 March 2024.
– Attachments such as motivated application, CV, recommendation letters etc., are not a requirement, but appreciated.

Application period: 10 January 2024 – 1 March 2024.

Conference participation abroad

Eligible to apply:
– Bachelor/master students, Ph.D. students, post.doc., scientific staff and employed lectures (assistant professor, associate professor, professor, etc.) within economics and business administraton or engineering programmes at DTU, CBS, AAU, AU and SDU.
– In special cases, support is provided for emeritus and newly graduated candidates’ participation in conferences, and for summer school stays for Ph.D. student.

Requirements:
– Applicant must have a Danish CPR-number and Danish bank account.
– A maximum of 1 conference participation is granted per calendar year.
– A maximum of 2 conference participations are granted within a 5 year period.
– Conferences without a specific commercial or technical focus, are not eligible for funding.
– The applicant must be actively participating in the congress, for example by oral/poster presentation.
– A maximum of two participants and grants per oral contribution.
– Participation must lead to an publication.
– It is a prerequisite for support that your institution contributes financially to the conference participation.
– The Fund will maximum grant equal to the institutions support, and with maximum support of DKK 7,500.
– There is no support for conference participation in Denmark and virtual participation.

Documentation requirements when submitting the application:
– Scientific article/abstract
– Invitation to conference.
– Signed support letter from institution, confirming their support and the extent of it.
– Documentation for publication – is possible to upload after the conference (for example, with the specific publication, proceedings, or confirmation of publication from the conference).

The application and required documents must be submitted no later than 31 days before departure.

In case all documents (or uncertainties with VISA or the conference host) are not in place 31 days prior to departure, please submit the application before the deadline anyway, and then forward the missing documents. Please note this in the application.

Research stay abroad

Eligible to apply:
– Ph.d. students, post.doc., scientific staff and and employed lectures (assistant professor, associate professor, professor, etc.) within economics and business administraton or engineering programmes at DTU, CBS, AAU, AU and SDU.

Requirements:
– Applicant must have a Danish CPR-number and Danish bank account.
– Research stays abroad of at least three months
– A maximum of one research stay is granted within a 5 year period.
– The terms of employment must be unchanged during the stay abroad, i.e. that wages etc. must be the same before, during and after the stay abroad.
– It is a prerequisite for support that your institution contributes financially to the research stay – in addition to the salary.
– The Fund will maximum grant equal to the institutions support, and with maximum support DKK 5,000 a month.
– The Fund does not award grants for experiments etc. during the research stay.
– The Fund only supports expenses associated with the stay, which means additional expenses (living costs, such as food, are not supported).
– There is no support to traveling family, as well as return trips during the stay.
– Research stays in Denmark are not supported.

Documentation requirements when submitting the application:
– Signed support letter from institution, confirming their support (in addition to salary) and the extent of it.
– Recommendation letter from the institution or suporvisor.
– Invitation from the host institution.

The application and required documents must be submitted no later than 2 months before departure.

Foreign visiting professorships

Foreign visiting professorships at DTU, CBS, AAU, AU and SDU.

Only technical (engineering) and mercantile institutes can apply.

The institution is responsible for recommending the departments’ applications for foreign visiting professorships to the Foundation.

Notices of visiting professorships will be sent to the institutions in January.

Application period: 13 February – 11 June 2024.

Special purpose

Special purposes that may promote Danish trade and industry or otherwise benefit Denmark.
Special Purposes must be interpreted broadly. The projects must be non-profit and the activity must contribute to strengthening Denmark’s trade and industry.

Otto Moensted Foundation supports among other things:

• International congresses focusing on business/trade and technical areas, and held on or in association with DTU, CBS, AAU, AU and SDU.
  The support will primarily be a balancing subsidy.
• Projects where Denmark’s honor is taken into consideration, provided that it strengthens Denmark’s trade and industry.
• Projects that combine trade and technology, for example collaboration across CBS and DTU.
• Projects/collaboration across danish universities.
• Activities that promote teachers’ competencies.
• Foreign lecturers to Danish institutions.
• Events/activities that promote entrepreneurship.
• Initiatives that build a bridge between students/startups and the Danish business community.
• Permanent cultural initiatives which focus on technology and trade.

Otto Moensted Foundation does not support:

• Entire education programmes
• Full PhD/MBA programmes
• Research projects
• Equipment procurement for research and teaching purposes
• General support and pension
• Artist support
• Group travel for students
• Party political projects
• Book releases, film projects, magazines etc.
• Projects where the majority of activities have already taken place
• Projects primarily developed by private/commercial companies, including consulting firms
• Activities that for the applicant only serve an earning purpose
• Product development
• Projects that consist of high operating and salary costs
• The fund does not support state and municipal projects or core tasks

Documentation requirements when submitting the application:
– Project description.
– Budget for the project/activity.
– Documentation of bank details.
– Appendix such as annual report, recommendations etc. are not a requirement, but appreciated.

The application and required documents must be submitted no later than 4 months before the start of the conference/event/project etc.

The same project/event/conference will generally not be supported more than 3 times within a 5-year period (often with decreasing support).

A balancing subsidy is valid a maximum of 6 months after the conference/event has been held.

In general, non-profit initiatives and projects that have been initiated and developed by associations and organizations, as well as the 8 Danish universities, are preferred. The Otto Mønsted Foundation supports initiatives throughout Denmark.

The fund is risk-averse and strives for the funds distributed to go to non-profit, innovative and future-oriented projects.

The Bright Idea Award 2024

In 2024, The Otto Moensted Bright Idea will be awarded again. The award, is a recognition of talented students, researchers and business people, who are developing innovative ideas which contributes to the development of Denmark’s trade and industry. Two bright ideas that demonstrate notable business potentials, will be awarded DKK 500,000 in total.

Otto Moensted made a difference and wanted to give others the opportunity to do the same. Supporting talents and ensuring that they have the optimal conditions to fulfill their potential, was something that Otto Moensted had a passion for.

Otto Moensted’s The Bright Idea is a recognition of talents, with the right innovative idea, product, process or solution. In addition, the award is meant to encourage and inspire to further development of their idea.

The Otto Moensted Foundation will hand out 2 awards within the following fields:

– DKK 250,000 for the best Early-stage idea
– DKK 250,000 for the best Late-stage idea

In addition to the above prizes, the jury can choose to award additional prizes to ideas who have made a special impression on the jury.

Candidates:

• Proposals are generally accepted from Bachelor/Master ́s students, PhD students and Postdocs affiliated with one of the eight universities in Denmark. You can apply individually or on behalf of a group.
• A bright idea with commercial potential, that has managed to combine research insight with business understanding.
• Ideas that previously have received awards (above DKK 200.000), is not eligible for The Bright Idea.
• Applicants who previously have been rejected are eligible for The Bright Idea 2024.

Process:

•  The proposal must be submitted via the Otto Moensted Foundation’s application system at www.omfonden.dk/application/
•  Applications must include a recommendation from your affiliated institution, supervisor etc., as well as answering 3 areas.

 The jury assess the proposal based on the following four criteria’s:

• Excellence in thought, communication, analysis and documentation
• The degree of business vision and understanding
• Likelihood of “The Bright Idea” being implemented
• The idea ́s value and significance for Danish business and industry

Next application period: April 15 – August 15 2024

The jury, selects 2 winners of “The Bright Idea”, which will be announced and awarded in October at Digital Tech Summit 2024.

All information, including descriptions and uploaded documents, is treated confidentially in the Otto Mønsted Foundation and by the jury. However, there will be obligations if one’s idea is nominated for The Bright Idea (a declaration of consent with further information must be accepted before the proposal can be submitted).

Please note that there are not given reasons in the event of a refusal.
