The Foundation awards grants for the below purposes:

The following sums up the requirements, information and documents requested by the Foundation for the individual purposes.

Please read all the information before you apply to ensure you are eligible to apply and fulfill the necessary requirements.

There are different deadlines for the individual purposes, which are stated under the specific purpose.

Credit qualifying studies abroad or internship

Eligible to apply:

  • Engineering students enrolled at DTU and AAU
  • Students enrolled in a BSc/MSc Economics and Business Administration programme (Cand.merc) at CBS and AU.

Requirements:

  • Credit qualifying study or internship abroad for at least 3 months (one or two semesters).
    – Only stays which are expected to be completed after 1 May 2020 are eligible for the current application period.
  • Grade point average of minimum 8.
  • You must have pre-approved subjects equivalent to a minimum of 15 ECTS.
  • The Fund supports with a maximum of DKK 10,000.
    – The application must be received by the Foundation no later than 1 March 2020.
  • Documentation required when applying:
    – Updated transcript of academic records.
    – Approved credit documentation – may be uploaded after 1 March 2020.
    – Admission documentation – may be uploaded after 1 March 2020.
  • For AAU applicants:
    – Confirmation of enrollment from AAU documenting admission to engineering programmes (Cand.polyt.).
  • For AU applicants:
    – Confirmation of enrollment from AU, documenting admission to BSc and MSc in Economics and Business Administration programmes (Cand.merc.).
  • Attachments such as motivated application, CV, recommendation letters etc., are not a requirement, but appreciated.

Application period:
10 January 2020 – 1 March 2020.


Conference participation abroad

Eligible to apply:

  • Employed lecturers, master/bachelor students, PhD students, and postdocs, as well as scientific staff from DTU, AAU (engineering programmes) and CBS.
  • PhD students within Economics and Business Administration programmes (Cand.merc.). at AAU, AU and SDU.
  • PhD students within engineering programmes (Cand.polyt.) at AU and SDU.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a Danish CPR-number.
  • A maximum of 1 conference participation is granted per calendar year.
  • A maximum of 2 conference participations are granted within a 5 year period – effective from 1/1 2020.
  • Participation in conferences without a specific commercial or technical focus is not eligible for funding.
  • The applicant must be actively participating in the congress, for example by oral/poster presentation.
  • A maximum of two participants and grants per oral contribution.
  • Participation must lead to a publication.

It is a prerequisite for support that your institution contributes financially to the conference participation.
The Fund will maximum grant equal to the institutions support, and only in exceptional circumstances will the grant exceed DKK 7,500.

The application and required documents must be received by the Fund no later than 31 days before departure.

In case all documents (or uncertainties with VISA or the conference host) are not in place 31 days prior to departure, please submit the application before the deadline anyway, and then forward the missing documents. Please note this in the application.

Documentation required when submitting an application:

  • Scientific article/abstract (if uploading a short abstract, please add some extra scientific data, such as a work report/preliminary article etc.).
  • Invitation to the conference.
  • Signed support letter from institution, confirming their support and the extent of it.
  • Documentation for publication – may be uploaded after the conference (for example, with the specific
  • publication, proceedings, or confirmation of publication from the conference).

Research stay abroad

Eligible to apply:

  • Employed lecturers, PhD students, and postdocs, as well as scientific staff from DTU, AAU (engineering programmes) and CBS.
  • PhD students within Economics and Business Administration programmes (Cand.merc.) at AAU, AU and SDU.
  • PhD students within engineering programmes (Cand.polyt.) at AU and SDU.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must have a Danish CPR-number.
  • Research stays abroad of at least three months
  • A maximum of one research stay is granted within a 5 year period – effective from 1/1 2020.
  • The terms of employment must be unchanged during the stay abroad, i.e. that wages etc. must be the same before, during and after the stay abroad.
  • It is a prerequisite for support that your institution contributes financially to the research stay – in addition to the salary.
  • The Fund will maximum grant equal to the institution’s support, and only in exceptional circumstances will the grant exceed DKK 5,000 a month.
  • The Fund does not award grants for experiments etc. during the research stay.
  • The Fund only supports expenses associated with the stay, which means that additional expenses (living costs, such as food) are not supported).
  • There is usually no support to accompanying family nor to return trips during the stay.
  • If subletting in Denmark is not possible, please elaborate in your application.

The application and required documents must be submitted no later than 2 months before departure.

In case all documents (or uncertainties with VISA or the host institution) are not in place 2 months prior to departure, please submit the application before the deadline anyway, and then forward the missing documents. Please note this in the application.

Documentation required when submitting an application:

  • Signed support letter from the institution, confirming their support (in addition to salary) and the extent of it.
  • Recommendation letter from the institution or supervisor.
  • Invitation from the host institution.

Foreign visiting professorships
Foreign visiting professors at DTU and CBS.

The institution is responsible for recommending the departments’ applications for foreign visiting professors to the Foundation.
The application must be submitted no later than June 7, 2020.

Notices of visiting professors will be sent to the institutions in January.

Special purpose

Special purposes that may promote Danish trade and industry or otherwise benefit Denmark. Among other things, support is provided for:

  • International congresses held at or in association with DTU, AAU (engineering programmes) or CBS.
  • International congresses focusing on business/trade and technical areas, and held at or in association with DTU, CBS, AAU, AU and SDU. International conferences without admission fee will only be supported in very special cases.- The support will primarily be a balancing subsidy.
  • Projects where Denmark’s honour is taken into consideration provided that it strengthens Denmark’s trade and industry.
  • Projects/collaboration across Danish universities.
  • Foreign teachers to Danish institutions.

The Foundation does not support:

  • Procurement of equipment for research and teaching purposes.
  • Product development.
  • Research projects, with salary.

Book releases

  • The application and required documents must be received by the Foundation no later than 4 months before the start of the conference/event/project etc.
  • The same project/event/conference will generally not be supported more than three times (often with decreasing support).
  • A balancing subsidy covers a maximum of 6 months after the conference/event has taken place.
  • In the annual reports HERE, you can find an outline of the Special Purposes that have been supported.

Documentation requirements when submitting the application:

  • Project description.
  • Budget for the project/activity.
  • Documentation of bank details.
  • Appendices such as annual report, recommendations etc. are not a requirement, but appreciated.

The Bright Idea

The Bright Idea is once again awarded in 2020

Otto Mønsted’s scientific innovation award “The Bright Idea” is awarded once a year (next time September 2020). Otto Mønsted´s The Bright Idea is a recognition of talented students, researchers and businesspeople, who are developing innovative solutions, which show significant development within their given field of study. In addition, The Bright Idea is meant to encourage more innovation in Danish business and industry and inspire researchers to continue developing innovative solutions and advance their entrepreneurial ambitions. Two bright ideas that demonstrate notable business potentials will be awarded with in total DKK 500,000.

The Otto Mønsted Foundation will present two awards in the following fields:

  • DKK 250,000 for the best idea within business/trade
  • DKK 250,000 for the best idea within science

The funds are taxable and are expected to be used to further develop the bright idea.

The proposal must be received by the Foundation no later than 4 March 2020

Candidates:

  • Applicant must have a Danish CPR number.
  • Proposals are accepted from bachelor/master students, PhDs and postdocs, affiliated with one of the eight universities in Denmark. It is possible to submit both individually and on behalf of a group.
  • If applied as a group, the project/idea must primarily be driven by students and young researchers (bachelor/master students, PhDs and postdocs).
  • A bright idea with commercial potential that has managed to combine research insight with business understanding.
  • The motivation to continue developing their idea.
  • Applicants who have previously have been rejected are eligible to be nominated for The Bright Idea 2020.
  • If the idea has already received prizes, it is not eligible for The Bright Idea.

Documentation requirements when submitting the proposal:

  • Recommendation from your affiliated institution/supervisor.
  • CV
  • A description (2-3 pages), where the following four areas must be answered and completed in our online application system.

The Bright Idea
The interaction with and value for Danish business Market competitors/rivals
The importance and use of possible funds

Application period: 15 January to 4 March 2020

The jury (read more) chaired by Bo Stærmose, selects two winners of “The Bright Idea”.

The awards will in particular be based on the dissemination text based on the following assessment criteria:

  • Excellence in thought, communication, analysis and documentation The degree of business vision and understanding
  • Likelihood of “The Bright Idea” being implemented
  • The idea´s value and significance for Danish business and industry

The jury:

  • All candidates will get a response on their proposal in May 2020.
  • The two winners of The Bright Idea 2020 will be announced and presented with the awards at MADE´s Innovation Summit on 24 September 2020 (postponed due to Covid-19) in Aarhus at ….., where The Otto Mønsted MADE Award is also presented.

OTTO MØNSTEDS INNOVATIONS- OG ENTREPRENØRSKABSPROGRAM

Otto Mønsteds Fond sender årligt 20 personer afsted til deltagelse ved et Innovations- og Entreprenørskabsprogram.
Programmet er udarbejdet i samarbejde med Technische Universität München (TUM) og Innovation Centre Danmark i München, og bliver afholdt for første gang i 2022 i München.
